The Max Planck Institute Luxembourg is an Institute of the Max Planck Society, which is Germany’s most successful research organization. The Institute in Luxembourg carries out collaborative research in the fields of international Procedural Law.

In order to support our small Financial Unit in the establishment and management of budgets for research projects and in the organization of cash flows, we are currently looking for a dynamic and motivated:

Financial Analyst / 3rd Party Funding (m/f)

- permanent contract
- full time, 40 hrs/week

Fully integrated in the Financial Unit, your job will consist of two main activities: the administrative coordination of the financial aspect of externally financed research projects, and providing administrative support to the essential functions of the Finance Unit.

Under the supervision of the Head of Finance, the Employee has the responsibility and the authority to, in particular but not exclusively:

Your Tasks

- Take the responsibility for third-party funded projects and assist the controlling and accounting operations;
- Track the budgetary expenditure of ongoing projects and submitting interim/final financial reports to the project’s sponsors;
- Liaise with researchers and establish budgets for the externally financed projects;
- Reviews project’s guidelines and agreements in order to comply with the respective procedural, budgetary and reporting requirements;
- Prepare monthly library reports, track and document the budgetary expenditure of ongoing events;
- Review staff travel expenses, reconcile the credit cards statements; ensure that these are in line with the regulations of the MPI;
- Take the responsibility for the monthly cash reconciliation;
- Act as petty cash custodian;
- Support of the Accounting processes;
- Perform any other assignment within the framework of the function.

Your Profile

- You hold a degree in financial field and you have 2 to 3 years of relevant experience, ideally in an academic environment;
- You master the regular IT tools and you are open to develop and use new interfaces;
- You have a good understanding of ADFINITY accounting software;
- You are sensitive to financial data and able to handle all kind of information with care and confidentiality;
- You are social but discrete and act with professionalism in any event;
- You are detail-oriented and can work both independently and as part of a team;
- You are interested in our academic context and enjoy working in a truly international environment;
- You are fluent in English – French and German being considered as an additional asset.
