The Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for Procedural Law is an Institute of the Max Planck Society, which is Germany’s most successful research organization. The Institute in Luxembourg conducts research in the areas of European law of civil procedure, international litigation and arbitration and dispute resolution in the financial markets.

The Institute has an immediate opening for a dynamic and motivated: 


- permanent contract
- full time, 40 hrs/week

Your tasks

The successful candidate will be responsible for the activities related to the accounting of the Max Planck Institute Foundation Luxemburg (MPI), within guidelines from financial and accounting management, MPI procedures, and statutory requirements, in order to comply with regulations and make accounting information available to relevant decision-makers.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the Accountant will have the responsibility and the authority to, including but not exclusively:

-    Daily bookkeeping in the current accounting system (accounts payable/receivable/fixed assets monitoring, payroll booking)
-    Prepare and control payment orders on Multiline;
-    Ensure the invoices/expenses are compliant with the internal regulations;
-    Maintain electronic and hard copy filing systems of invoices/bank statements;
-    Prepare the monthly and annual VAT returns (ECL100);
-    Prepare the monthly reporting to the Statec (intra UE acquisitions);
-    Prepare the annual accounts;
-    Prepare the year-end audit process and interact with auditors;
-    Interact with suppliers and the stakeholders for the preparation of the annual financial statements;
-    Implement the approbation workflow in the accounting system.

Your profile

-    BTS/Bachelor’s degree in Accounting;
-    3 years of relevant professional experience in a similar position;
-    Bookkeeping procedure with extensive knowledge of regulatory, statutory reporting and accounting;
-    Good knowledge in VAT return and Lux GAAP;
-    Experience with Accounting software such as ADFINITY;
-    Fluent in English & French, German is considered as an asset; 
-    Good knowledge in Microsoft Office;
-    Strong organizational skills, detail oriented and proactive;
-    Able to handle all kind of information with care and confidentiality;
-    Can work both independently and as part of a team;
-    Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
