Important Formatting Specificities of MPEiPro
Footnotes are not allowed in MPEiPro entries due to the publisher's policy. As such, please pay particular attention to the style guidance on citations. In particular, it is crucial that you include the maximum amount of details when referencing material in your manuscript so that both editors and readers are able to locate these sources. Note that you will be required to provide any missing information in this regard.
Entry Sizes
The length of each individual contribution includes the relevant bibliographical material. The length of a contribution is calculated according to its number of pages (1 page = 500 words, Times New Roman 12, single-spaced).
Authors should respect the recommended number of pages indicated in the concept note sent to them by email.
Small entry (S) | Medium entry (M) | Large entry (L) |
---|---|---|
3000 to 5000 words | 5000 to 8000 words | 8000 to 12000 words |
6 to 10 pages | 10 to 16 pages | 16 to 24 pages |

Review and Editorial Process
After submission, all manuscripts go through a multi-stage review process, including formatting checks and peer review. This process generally takes about three months, but it may extend further in rare cases when there are difficulties finding appropriate reviewers.
After the initial peer review process, the General Editor communicates requested changes (if any) to the author, who then has the opportunity to submit a revised version addressing these comments. After the revision is sent in, the manuscript will go under a second internal review, which takes about four weeks.
If the General Editor approves the content, the text will then be sent to a proofreader for a language check. Following the proofreading process, which may last up to two weeks, the Editorial Team will send the corrected manuscript back to the author for approval.
Once the author returns the text, it will be sent to the Copy Editing Team to adjust the manuscript in terms of formatting and then sent to the General Editor for final approval. This step can take up to two months before the final version of the entry—available to you on Editorial Manager—is transmitted to the publisher, Oxford University Press.
Publisher’s Policy on the Publication of Drafts
MPEiPro authors are required to follow OUP’s policy on posting draft articles on a pre-print server or a preprint in a repository. All MPEiPro drafts are under an embargo for three years from the time of publication. After this period, pre-publication versions can be posted in the repositories of universities or publically funded bodies (rather than commercial repositories such as SSRN).
Any request for exceptions from authors can be addressed to MPEiPro.Inbox@oup.com.

Editors, authors and reviewers are required to keep confidential all details of the editorial and peer review process on submitted entries. The peer review process is confidential and conducted anonymously; identities of reviewers are not revealed. Reviewers must maintain confidentiality of entries and reviews.
