University of Ghent awarded an honorary doctorate to Prof Burkhard Hess
Professor Burkhard Hess, Executive Director of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg, was conferred an honorary doctorate from Ghent University on 20 March 2015.
With this distinction, the University of Ghent honored Professor Hess’ scientific research in the field of European procedural law. This has become a major field of judicial activities as cross-border litigation within the Internal Market is growing and expanding steadily. Burkhard Hess has written more than 100 articles on comparative and European procedural law. In 2010, he published a pertinent treatise on “Europäisches Zivilprozessrecht”. Currently, a Commentary on the most important European instruments is in print.
This distinction also honored the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg, a new and inspiring research institution for procedural law. The Institute attracts researchers from all over the world to Luxembourg which has become a major place for dispute resolution in Europe. A close scientific relationship exists between the Faculteit Rechtsgeleerdheid of Ghent and the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg. Both institutions stand for foundational research in comparative and European procedural law.
