ILA Committee on the Protection of Privacy in Private International and Procedural Law

On 13 October 2017 the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg will host the fifth meeting of the ILA Committee on the Protection of Privacy in Private International and Procedural Law.

The Committee was established in 2013 to create a forum on the protection of privacy in the context of private international and procedural law. It is chaired by Prof. Dr Dres h.c. Burkhard Hess, and it includes experts from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea (Republic of), Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

On the occasion of its fifth meeting, the Committee will convene to examine, inter alia, questions of jurisdiction and applicable law in privacy litigation, especially in the context of the social media and in light of the recent developments from the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Court of Human Rights, and national courts. Further, the Committee will make progress in the draft guidelines that it is in the process of drawing up, also with a view to the First Report that the Committee will present at the 78th ILA Biennial Conference, which will be hosted in Sydney (19-24 August 2018).
