The IMPRS-SDR will host its annual doctoral seminar at the Institute on 22 and 23 November 2018. At the seminar, the doctoral candidates of the IMPRS-SDR will discuss the status of their research and three distinguished experts in the field - em. Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. R. Wolfrum (former judge at the ITLOS), Professor Dr. M. Villiger (former judge at the ECtHR) and Mr. T. Maxian Rusche (European Commission) - will give keynote addresses on topical issues in international dispute settlement.

The IMPRS-SDR was established in 2009 to bring together academics and seasoned practitioners with excellent PhD candidates in international dispute settlement. The IMPRS-SDR is a collaborative effort of several research institutions in Germany and Luxembourg, namely, the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, Heidelberg University, the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law gGmbH, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, and the University of Luxembourg.

The IMPRS-SDR is currently in its second working cycle (2015 - 2020) and will shortly admit five new doctoral candidates. The IMPRS-SDR has supported more than 30 PhD candidates from more than 16 different countries and legal systems. In addition to providing academic and financial support, a key focus of the IMPRS-SDR is the practical education of young scholars in international dispute settlement.
