Timon Boerner studied at Heidelberg University (Germany) and Uppsala University (Sweden) and graduated with a degree in law (First State Examination), specialising in Private International Law and International Procedural Law. During his studies, he worked as a student assistant at the Institute for the History of Law at Heidelberg University.

Prior to joining the Max Planck Institute, he completed an internship at the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) in Vienna. At the Institute, his research focuses on International and European Procedural Law. He currently prepares a Ph.D. thesis on legal problems related to third party funding in litigation and arbitration.
