International Law and the European Union
Book Launch by Dr Jed Odermatt
Thursday, 27 October 2022, 16:30 - 18:00 (CEST)

The European Union (EU) plays a significant role in international affairs. Dr Jed Odermatt’s (City, University of London) recently released International Law and the European Union examines the impact of the EU on public international law by integrating perspectives from both EU law and international law. In this book launch, Dr Jed Odermatt and Dr Güneş Ünüvar will present the author’s analysis of those fields of public international law in which the EU has had an influence, including customary international law, the law of treaties, international organizations, international dispute settlement, and international responsibility.
Dr Odermatt will present how International Law and the European Union examines the EU’s subtle but significant impact on the development of international law and how the international legal order has developed and adjusted to accommodate the EU as a distinct legal actor. In delving into the broad scope of this work, the author and the moderator will contribute to the academic understanding of how international law addresses legal subjects other than States.
