New subscriptions available in our Library
21 new subscriptions have been added to our collection. Of special relevance is a set of journals in the field of International Banking and/or the Law of International Financial Markets. Full list is available here.
Since January 2023 the Full Journals Collection of Cambridge journals is available thanks to a deal negotiated with Luxembourg Consortium. The number of titles accessible has increased from 38 to 420. The full collection covers among others. social and political sciences, and therefore renowned titles, such as International Organizations, World Politics, Review of International Studies, Global Constitutionalism, European Journal of International Security and Politics and Gender.
A Fascinating Graphic History: ‘Une histoire du droit international. De Salamanque à Guantanamo’
For the ones who during the Easter-break either want to introduce relatives to the field of International Law, - if they have not yet succeeded well themselves explaining what we do on a daily basis - , or want to familiarize themselves with the History of International Law, - in a creative and ludic way - , the “graphic history”, ‘Une histoire du droit international. De Salamanque à Guantanamo’ (2022) by Olivier Corten and Pierre Klein (text) and Gérard Bedoret (illustrations), with a preface by Philippe Sands, might be the ‘must read’.
The story, as if it were being told by a couple discussing the value and power of International Law, roots well in early modern history, addresses the ideology of the Catholic Church and gives the floor to Hugo Grotius, etc., and runs up to the 20th century and the present times of International Law. It even covers Philippe Sands most recent book ‘The Last Colony. A Tale of Exile, Justice and Britain’s Colonial Legacy’ (2022).
OPEN ACCESS PUBLISHING AGREEMENT WITH CAMBRIDGE
MPI Library is very pleased to share with you that the National Library of Luxembourg has signed the new three-year transformative Read and Publish agreement with Cambridge University Press. Our Institute as member of Consortium Luxembourg is a part of this agreement.
The agreement takes effect immediately and enables MPI researchers to publish their research in Cambridge University Press’ journals under open access principles, without being charged with additional publishing fees.

AND THE LIBRARY SURVEY 2023 MAIN FINDINGS ARE…

1. The print books collection remains highly relevant.
- 6 out of 10 respondents reported using the print collection daily, or two or more times per week.
- 7 out of 10 respondents indicated a preference for print books over e-books.
2. Electronic journals are preferred to print journals.
- 6 out of 10 respondents were not aware of the print journal collection or have not used it.
- 10 out of 10 respondents indicated a preference for e-journals over print journals.
3. Strong demand for online resources.
- 8 out of 10 respondents reported using the library’s online resources daily, while the other 2 respondents reported using them two or more times per week
4. Overall Library satisfaction.
- All respondents were “very satisfied” (9/10) or “satisfied” (1/10) with the Library.

International Potluck Brunch - Winter edition 2023
After a 3-year break, the 6 February 2023 MPI Library & Guest program organized the revival of the International Potluck Brunch tradition at MPI. The result was a wonderful coming together where the community of researchers, administration, support staff, librarians, student assistants and guests of the Institute got to know each other while tasting food from around the world. Through the food that participants prepared, cooked and took with them all of the people could get an insight into the culture and origins of the Institute’s chefs. Thanks to all!
The sun was brilliantly shining, so, the next time might be in summer on the terrace?
