Prof. José Carlos Fernández Rozas (University Complutense of Madrid)

Prof. Fernández Rozas graduated in Law in the University of Oviedo in 1973, and in Pedagogy of History one year later. He holds a PhD degree in Law from the University of Oviedo (summa cum laude). In 1976 he obtained the Diploma from the Research Center of the Hague Academy of International Law. Since 1987 he is the holder of the Chair of Private International Law at the University Complutense of Madrid. In 1994 he was the Spanish delegate at the Hague Conference of Private International Law. He was appointed to the Royal Spanish Academy of Legislation and Jurisprudence in 2008. In 2001 he delivered a special course at The Hague Académie of International Law, entitled “Le rôle des juridictions étatiques devant l’arbitrage commercial international”. Until 2006 he was President of the Hispanic-Luso-American Institute for International Law. In 2011 he was elected Associate of the International Law Institute, becoming a Titular Member in 2017. Whereas his main expertise lies in Private International Law, he is contributing author to thirteen monographs and more than one hundred scientific studies on the Nationality Law, Law of Banking, Electric Sector, Migration Law, International Civil Procedure, and International Commercial Arbitration. He is the Chief editor of several legal periodicals, among which the Anuario Español de Derecho internacional and Arbitraje- Revista de Arbitraje Comercial y de Inversiones. He has been appointed as sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator in several commercial disputes of international scope.
