Annual Doctoral Seminar of the International Max Planck Research School for Successful Dispute Resolution

On 17 and 18 December, the IMPRS-SDR held its annual meeting at the Max Planck Institute in Luxembourg. Thirteen Ph.D. Candidates from the first and the second cycle of the Research School gathered to present and discuss aspects of their current research with eminent scholars and practitioners in dispute settlement. The presentations covered a broad range of topics in international public and private dispute settlement including case management at the European Court of Human Rights, dissenting opinions in commercial arbitration, the European Arbitration Convention on Transfer Pricing, third-party effects of international investment awards, negotiation in the context of third-party dispute settlement regimes, public hearings and the use of social media in courtrooms, and counter-claims in the practice of the International Court of Justice.
Among the attending scholars and practitioners were the speakers of the Research School Professor Burkhard Hess (MPI Luxembourg), Professor Thomas Pfeiffer (Heidelberg University) and emeritus Professor Rüdiger Wolfrum (Max-Planck Foundation), attending professors Gilles Cuniberti (University of Luxembourg), Matthew Happold (University of Luxembourg), Peter-Christian Müller-Graff and Marc-Philippe Weller (Heidelberg University), as well as advisory council members Professor Mark Villiger and Judge Professor Allan Rosas (European Court of Justice).
