Juan Branco awarded for his PhD dissertation

Dr. Juan Branco, Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Luxembourg, has been awarded for the excellence of his PhD thesis by the Varenne University Institute and the International Criminal Court.

For 15 years, the Varenne University Institute organises an Annual Thesis Prize in law and social sciences. Juan Branco’s dissertation has been awarded in the category “International Criminal Justice”, a category supported by the International Criminal Court which partakes in the selection of the laureate.

The Award ceremony will take place in Paris on 16 December 2015 under the chairmanship of Mr. Jean-Louis Debré, President of the Constitutional council of the French Republic. On this occasion, Dr. Juan Branco will receive the first copy of his dissertation edited by the Varenne University Institute.

Dr. Juan Branco defended his Phd thesis, entitled “De l'Affaire Katanga au contrat social global : un regard sur la Cour pénale internationale”, at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris (ENS Ulm) on 16 Novembre 2014. The Defense committee was composed by Mireille Delmas-Marty, Professor Emeritus at the Collège de France, President; Jean-Louis Halpérin, Professor of Law at ENS Ulm, supervisor; Hélène Ruiz-Fabri, Director of the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg; Marc Crépon, Research director at the CNRS, Director of Philosophy Department et à ENS Ulm; Isabelle Delpla, Professor of Philosophy, University of Lyon III.
