Prof. Hélène Ruiz Fabri welcomed Ms Simone Beissel (DP) at the MPI Luxembourg as part of the “Pairing Scheme”

23 November 2016

Politics meets Research: Prof. Hélène Ruiz Fabri, director of the MPI Luxembourg, introduced Ms Simone Beissel (DP) to the work of the MPI Luxembourg and the pair attended one of the Institute’s lectures.

Within the framework of the “Pairing Scheme”, a new initiative launched by the Luxembourg National Research Fund, Prof. Ruiz Fabri welcomed Ms Simone Beissel (DP), at the Weicker Building on 9 November 2016. Ms Beissel, vice-president of the Luxembourg Parliament since 2013, is a jurist herself having practiced as a lawyer before her political career.

Prof. Ruiz Fabri gave Ms Beissel a tour through the Institute and an introduction to the fields of research conducted at the MPI Luxembourg for Procedural Law. Afterwards, both attended a lecture of the Max Planck Lecture Series on Sovereign Debt entitled “Investment Arbitration as a means of Resolving Sovereign Debt Dispute” by Dr Michael Waibel (Cambridge University) and Prof. Rodrigo Olivares-Caminal (Queen Mary University of London).

Besides Prof. Ruiz Fabri and Simone Beissel, the “Pairing Scheme” brings together 17 Members of the Luxembourg Parliament with 17 researchers in their respective work environments. In the course of different opportunities to meet and discuss, the pairs are given a room for an extended knowledge exchange between politics and research in Luxembourg.
