Education in Law and Political Sciences at the Universities of Padua and Bologna; Doctor Juris in International Law at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich.

Former academic positions:

Professor of International Law and European Law in the University of Urbino (Italy) 1998-2005. In the nineties visiting scholar/professor in International Law and European Law in the Universities of Munich (D), Würzburg (D), Michigan (USA), King's College (UK).

Current position:

Full Professor of International Law- Law School of the University of Padua (Italy) since October 2005.

Director of the School on European Legal and Social Studies of the University of Padova

Co-opted Member of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Völkerrecht and of the Société française de droit international. Member of the American Society of International Law, the British Institute of International and Comparative Law, the European Society of International Law, the Italian Society of International Law.

2009-2012 Counsel of the Federal Republic of Germany at the ICJ in the case Jurisdictional Immunities of States (FRG v. Italy)

Author of two monographs on circumstances precluding wrongfulness (in German 1991) and on State responsibility for war damages (in Italian 2003) and of numerous articles and essays in leading international journals on theory of international law, state responsibility, international dispute settlement.
