Isabelle Pingel is a professor of public Law at the Sorbonne Law School, University of Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne). She has been teaching full time since 1994 and, prior to that, she worked for seven years in the International Arbitration department of Shearman and Sterling LLP in Paris.

Professor Pingel has authored various books, such as Les immunités des Etats en droit international (Bruylant, 1998) and Le multilinguisme dans l’Union européenne (Pedone, 2016). She also authored numerous publications on European Union Law and International Law.

Her current research focuses on various aspects of language and law in the European Union and other major international organizations (notably the Council of Europe and the United Nations Organization). She studies among other topics (i) the linguistic regime of the European Union and its various institutions and bodies, (ii) the notion of “official language”, which is a core component in all international organizations, and (iii) the recognition and the implementation of “linguistic justice”, which is an emerging principle of International Law and EU Law.
