Somesh Dutta


Somesh Dutta is a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law and a member of the International Max Planck Research School for Successful Dispute Resolution. His doctoral research focuses on investor-state dispute settlement reform (UNCITRAL Working Group III deliberations).

Somesh holds a B.A. LL.B. (Honours) degree with a specialization in energy laws from the University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (India) since 2015 and an LL.M. degree from the MIDS Program jointly offered by the Geneva University Law School & Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (Switzerland) since 2017.

Prior to joining the Institute, Somesh was working with the public international law and international arbitration practice of an international law firm in Paris. His previous experience includes working with the International Court of Justice and with the Ministry of External Affairs - Legal & Treaties Division (India).

At the age of 22, he was awarded the Certificate of Honours in International Law from the Xiamen Academy of International Law (China). His research interests include international commercial and investment arbitration, international investment law and comparative constitutional law.
